Marshal Historical

Marshal Historical produce some of the best re-enactment equipment available to buy in the UK. Their range of historically accurate helmets and armour is crafted from 12, 14 and 16 gauge steel making it incredibly durable and suitable for pretty much anything the re-enactment field has to throw at it! Many of the Marshal Historical products are modelled on actual existing pieces or period artwork. Marshal Historical weaponry is designed for use. Their maces, axes and spearheads are supplied either blunt, for the re-enactment field, or sharp for living history or the re-enactment camp. Marshal Historical clothing is historically accurate and is made to period designs from authentic materials such as linen and wool.

  • German Sallet - 16 gauge

    Between 1450 and 1500 no one went to war without wearing at least one form of head protection, usually barbute or sallet. There were many different designs depending on the origin of the item but some, as the one shown here, had simple but effective designs.

  • Burgundian Sallet - 16 gauge

    The sallet was a war helmet that replaced the bascinet in Italy, western and northern Europe and Hungary during the mid-15th century. In Italy, France and England the armet helmet was also popular, but in Germany, the sallet became almost universal.

  • Pikeman’s Cabasset Helmet - 16 gauge

    Extracted directly from the engravings, we've interpreted and reproduced this beautiful cabasset. It is ideal for 17th century re-enactment from the English Civil War era. In the engravings, pikemen can be seen wearing this protection combined with a breastplate (MH-A0798).They can also be seen on arquebus troops and are represented in the art of other places and on other troops. The cheek plates included were used to protect the neck and face of the wearer and became a common feature of the age.

    This helmet is constructed from 16 gauge steel making it great for English Civil War era re-enactment. Leather chin strap included.

  • MH Transitional Helmet - 16 gauge

    Sometimes knights will prioritise protection over vision for obvious reasons. The Topfhelm (literally Pot Helmet) has evolved from the less protective spangenhelm, and there is eveidence of its use during the late medieval ages.

    Our “Early Top Helmet” is one of the earlier versions of these Topfhelms, suitable for Knights and Infantrymen. Made in 1.6mm steel with natural canvas lining.

    The sallet was a war helmet that replaced the bascinet in Italy, western and northern Europe and Hungary during the mid-15th century. In Italy, France and England the armet helmet was also popular, but in Germany, the sallet became almost universal.     This helmet comes from a small group of closely related Spangenhelms (strap helmets). The sites where they have been found are widely scattered, ranging from Sweden to Germany, the Balkans and Libya. The Spangenhelm was a popular medieval European combat helmet design of Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. Over time Spangenhelms were replaced by one piece skulls like nasal helmets and kettle hats.

    The Great Helm, which began to be seen on the battlefield as early as the 13th century on its earliest forms proved to be a winning design to be used almost for the next three centuries. It was most commonly worn over a chainmail coif or skull cap. It was usually built with 4 riveted pieces with flat top.
