Marto

Marto is a manufacturer of traditional swords, located in Toledo, Spain. Marto has collected over 100 years of knowledge and experience in the specialised craft of their swords, armour and weapons.

Marto was founded to regain the testimony and the techniques of the sword master-craftsman tradition which was so prominent in Toledo. Marto is very proud to maintain to this day the “Secret of the Templar” when manufacturing their swords, giving prestige and continuity to the famous Toledo Steel.

  • Excalibur Dagger

    Richard I was King of England from 6 July 1189 until his death. He was the third of five sons of King Henry II of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine. He was known as Richard Cœur de Lion or Richard the Lionheart because of his reputation as a great military leader and warrior. By the age of 16, Richard I had taken command of his own army, putting down rebellions in Poitou against his father. Richard was a central Christian commander during the Third Crusade.

  • King Solomon Dagger

    Solomon, King of Israel (S. X b. C.). King David married Bathsheba, after orchestrating her husband's death. Their son Solomon became king. He reigned in Israel between 970BC and 931BC and he was respected and known as a wise, fair and powerful king. Solomon raised the Israelite monarchy to the height of its prosperity, built Jerusalem Temple, a wall around the city, and cultivated the Sciences and the Arts. It is told in history that there was a case in which the two women were fighting over a baby and King Solomon, in order to find out which one was the real mother, gave his sword to a soldier and ordered him to spilt the baby in two and to give one half to each of the women. The real mother begged the King not to kill the child and to give him to the other woman. This way, Solomon knew immediately which one was lying, and displayed his great wisdom and fairness.

    Toledo is famous for its historical character, its art, and its steel. Marto of Spain inherits the testimony of the sword manufacturing traditions of Toledo Spain among the list of the most famous sword cutlers of its time.   • Marto Excalibur Sword - Decorated

    Excalibur is the legendary sword of King Arthur, sometimes attributed with magical powers or associated with the rightful sovereignty of Great Britain. The sword was associated with the Arthurian legend very early. In Welsh, the sword is called Caledfwlch; in Cornish, the sword is called Calesvol; in Breton, the sword is called Kaledvoulc'h; in Latin, the sword is called Caliburnus.

    King Arthur’s history and legend are intimately linked to the magic and mysterious sword “Excalibur”.   • Merlin Sword

    Merlin means FALCON, when he was born to the beautiful Lady of the Lake, the great druid Hafgan, from whom Merlin was to learn all his magic, announced the birth of “The Great Lord of Light”. His grandfather taught him to be a great warrior and tireless defender of the Empire. He became Merlin the warrior-druid, loyal councillor to Uther, the supreme ruler of Britain.

    On the death of Uther without any legitimate heir, Merlin drove his sword Excalibur into solid rock and gave his people a message:

    “You look for a sign: he who pulls his sword from the rock will be the true King of all England”.

    Merlin then became tutor to Uther’s bastard son Arthur, teaching him all the wiles of a good sovereign and keeping him hidden until the time came to unsheathe Excalibur from its rock and claim his title as King of England.
