Marto is a manufacturer of traditional swords, located in Toledo, Spain. Marto has collected over 100 years of knowledge and experience in the specialised craft of their swords, armour and weapons.
Marto was founded to regain the testimony and the techniques of the sword master-craftsman tradition which was so prominent in Toledo. Marto is very proud to maintain to this day the “Secret of the Templar” when manufacturing their swords, giving prestige and continuity to the famous Toledo Steel.

Briquet Sabre
The Briquet Saber was a melee weapon used in Napoleonic Wars. It is a short, slightly curved sword with a golden handle, and was carried by most infantry units, including flag-bearers, musicians and engineers.

The real-life saber briquet was introduced around 1780, however, soldiers found that in close quarters, bayonets or the stocks of their muskets were better suited for combat, and the order was given to abandon the saber briquet in 1807. Some regiments continued to carry them until 1815 though.

North Grimston Celtic Dagger
The North Grimston Dagger was found by accident in 1902 while laborers were digging on Lord Middleton´s land near North Grimston. The smaller of the two swords discovered was decorated with an anthropomorphic (man-shaped) handle. Ownership of such a rare item marks the man buried at North Grimston out to be one of the most important people of Iron Age East Yorkshire.

The dagger is one of a small number of similar weapons found across Celtic Europe which features a human figure forming the hilt. Other examples were found in Hungary, Northern Italy, Switzerland, and France. This dagger can now be seen on display at Hull and East Riding Museum.

North Grimston Celtic Sword
In 1902, workers accidentally found a Celtic grave on the North Grimston estate. The Celt was buried with a shield, two swords, and a piece of pork. The smallest sword was decorated with an anthropomorphic grip (shaped like a human), typical for Celtic swords from the La Tene period. Such swords were luxurious and exclusive and belonged to mighty warriors.

Similar swords have been excavated in Switzerland, Hungary, France, and other Celtic countries. The original sword is now on display at the Hull and East Riding Museum and is one of the best-preserved anthropomorphic swords.
