The staff of the Wizard Gandalf the Grey was a very powerful talisman and tool with which to exercise his enormous powers. After Gandalf’s Pipe Staff was taken from him by the wizard Saruman when he was imprisoned in Orthanc, he acquired a new staff in Rivendell after his escape.

This long, wood staff had a crown of twisted root branches and runes carved into the sides. When the Fellowship of the Ring needed light to find their way in the dark Mines of Moria, Gandalf set an illuminated magic crystal into its crown. It was there in depths of Middle-earth that Gandalf encountered Durin’s Bane, the great Balrog of Moria. Gandalf channelled his power through his staff to defend his companions against the flaming beast, using it to break the bridge in Khazad-dûm!

The staff of the Gandalf the Grey is a symbol of his status as an 'Istari', or Wizard. It was once owned by Radagast the Brown, crafted from an upturned, twisted sapling once crowned with twig and root-like protrusions, but now all broken and worn down. As well as being Gandalf's trusted walking stick and a fighting weapon when in need, it holds a deep magical power. Radagast's rune mark is carved into the side and the crown features a grooved shape that once held Radagast's blue crystal, now serving as a place for Gandalf to store his pipe. Pushed into the side of the staff is a nail spike which Gandalf uses as a tobacco tamper, and once used to scratch a rune into the door of Bilbo Baggins home in Hobbiton. Made from wood, this leather-wrapped scabbard is a licensed replica of the actual Weta Workshop prop from the Lord of the Rings films by New Line Cinema. It is designed to fit the Guthwine Sword of Eomer (UC3383), sold separately.

This red-brown scabbard has two grooves running down its length, mimicking the double fuller on Guthwine. It features a brass chape, throat, and belt ring. The throat features swirled lines and a pair of horse heads. The horse heads are on opposite sides and face the same direction. In the middle of the scabbard, the belt ring features a small hole for securing the scabbard to a belt, not included.

At the bottom of the scabbard, the chape features a knotwork pattern with rearing horses on top. There is another pair of horse heads at the bottom. They face each other. Each head has swirls coming down from its mane.
