Details
The tanto first came about as a practical weapon during the Heian period. As it evolved through the years, it started to feature all the koshirae (fittings) of a samurai sword. Besides serving as a self defense weapon, it was also gifted to newborn babies and Japanese brides as a symbol of protection.
Ronin Katana's Dojo Pro 1060 steel Tanto #4 is forged from 1060 steel that has been through hardened to give it a consistent hardness throughout. This Hamidashi style tanto features a small tsuba (guard) while the tsuka (handle) has a menuki (decorative ornament) and is wrapped with an ito (handle wrap).
