Our “Deluxe” range of swords have a much more decorated finish than their plain counterparts. The hilt fittings and grips are painted with bright enamel paint to accentuate the details of the intricate designs. On some swords in the range, gold paint is also used to give the swords a “high status” look.

Our Odin Viking Sword is based on an excavated find from Dyback in Sweden and now on display in the Historiska Museum, Stockholm. It is one of the finest Viking-era swords ever found in Scandinavia. It was probably made in England and if not, it was certainly influenced by English styles. It is an exceptional example of the Winchester style of metalwork from the 8th-11th century. This stunning replica features a leather-bound grip (the original sword had silver wire) and a decorated stainless steel blade. This fantastic replica is produced in the world famous Art Gladius factory in Toledo, Spain.

On the 8th June 793 the first Viking attack is recorded in England. The abbey of Lindisfarne in Northumbria, a centre of learning that was famous across Europe was destroyed in a Viking raid. Monks were killed or taken away as slaves and the church treasures were taken away. From this moment onwards, Viking raids on England became more frequent until they were eventually defeated in a series of battles by King Alfred the Great. The last Viking raid on England was defeated by King Harold II in 1066. The Vikings were ferocious warriors and saw death in battle as means to entering the Halls of Valhalla – where they could fight all day and feast all night.
