Richard I was king of England from 1189-99. He was the third of five sons of King Henry II of England and Duchess Eleanor of Aquitaine. He was known as Richard Cœur de Lion or Richard the Lionheart because of his reputation as a great military leader and warrior. Richard was a central Christian commander during the Third Crusade and scored considerable victories against his Muslim counterpart, Saladin, although he failed to re-take Jerusalem. He remains one of the few kings of England who is remembered by his epithet, rather than a regnal number and is an enduring iconic figure both in England and in France.

The English Knight is mounted on a sculpted wooden horse that is dressed in full "bard" (Horse Armour) and is draped in a beautiful red fabric gualdrapa. The armour on both horse and rider are deeply etched and exhibit complementary 24K gold and silver-plated elements. The Knight wears a Great Helm and carries a lance with gold and silver fittings and lance head. This formidable duo stands gallantly upon a solid wood base ready to represent and uphold the honour and prestige of any Noble worthy of their loyalties. An amazingly elegant, high-quality focal piece is sure to impress.
