Bollock Dagger
It’s pretty clear to see where this classic medieval dagger got is name from! Also known as the Ballock Dagger or Kidney Dagger (you can thank the Victorians for that one!). This dagger was popular both on and off the battlefield from the 13th to 18th century and a predecessor to the Scottish Dirk. It was very popular during the Tudor period and a large number of Bollock Daggers were found on the wreck of the Mary Rose.

16th Century German Quillon Dagger
This early 16th Century dagger is based on a historical example which is housed within the collection of the Metropolitan Museum and dated to 1510-1540. These German styled daggers with their characteristic half ring guard would have been a fine everyday sidearm to a well-heeled knight, burgher or landsknecht mercenary.

By tradition, the original dagger belonged to Henry VIII and was probably a hunting weapon. Its blade is long, hollow-ground, single-edged and decorated with etched roses and pomegranates. These were respectively the badges of King Henry VIII and his first wife, Katherine of Aragon. Her badge probably dates the dagger to the first decade of Henry’s reign.

It features a hexagonal pommel engraved with the “2 knights on 1 horse” seal of the order and is surrounded by the Latin/Greek text “Sigillum Militum Xpisti” translating as “The Seal of a Soldier of Christ”. The leather wrapped grip features the black and white banner with cross pattée that is associated with the Templar Order. The hilt and scabbard reinforcements are brass plated and heavily decorated with Templar symbols and the Spanish steel blade is masterfully etched with Saint George and the Dragon.
