The Spanish Horse Helmet is made of steel and characterized by a large beak-shaped visor that covers the face entirely leaving only the two eye-slits open. With a gorget depicting golden floral motifs and a visor enriched by etchings, this helmet is as much an artistic piece as it is representative of the helmets used during the 16th century.

Armet with Gorget - 12 & 14 gauge
Typical armets are made up of four pieces: a skull with a reinforced forehead, two cheek plates attached with hinges to the skull and a pointed visor. Cheek plates were closed by a pin and this was secured with a hook or metallic wire.

Jousting Close Helm
Our Jousting Close Helm is made in Italy. It is constructed from 20 gauge steel with a lacquered finish and features 1 piece tilting visor that can be raised and lowered.

The visor is unusual in that is does not feature ventilation holes on either side. As such this helmet would get hot and stuffy in combat and was probably designed for jousting where the visor would only be lowered during the charge.
