Marshal Historical Helmets are manufactured for re-enactment. They are constructed from 12, 14 and 16 gauge steel making them incredibly durable in combat. Many are historically accurate designs and are modelled on existing pieces in museum collections or period artwork. Marshal Historical Helmets date from the early medieval period to the renaissance. • Crusader Great Helm - 16 gauge - Brass

The Great Helm, which began to be seen on the battlefield as early as the 13th century on its earliest forms proved to be a winning design to be used almost for the next three centuries. It was most commonly worn over a chainmail coif or skull cap. It was usually built with 4 riveted pieces with flat top. It has a fierce-looking fixed visor that enhanced the already intimidating look of a charging knight.

Our Crusader Great Helm was inspired by an original piece dated from the middle 13th century found in Pomerania that is now on display in the Historisches Museum of Berlin. This style of helmet was usually seen in the middle 13th century until the beginning of 14th century and can be seen in documents such as the Codex Manesse, the Maziejowsky Bible or the Cantigas.

Our Crusader Great Helm is constructed from 16 gauge steel making it perfect for re-enactment. It features a padded liner and adjustable leather chin strap.

    Inner circumference: 64cm

  • Open Face Sallet - 16 gauge

The sallet was a war helmet that replaced the bascinet in Italy, western and northern Europe and Hungary during the mid-15th century. In Italy, France and England the armet helmet was also popular, but in Germany, the sallet became almost universal. The large amount of artistic representation and original pieces indicate that even with a slight German predominancy, this was a common choice of helmet throughout Europe.

This specific model, with back tail and without a visor, was commonly used by infantry and mercenaries due to its versatility.
