A sword fit for a pharaoh, our Tutankhamun Sword is inspired by the legendary treasures found in the boy king’s tomb. It features a golden hilt adorned with Egyptian symbols. The ornate guard features the face of the falcon headed god Horus whilst the pommel is a scarab beetle with spread wings. The stainless steel blade has an etched cartouche featuring similar symbols to those found on his tomb.

The claymore (from Gaelic claideamh-mor, great sword) was a Celtic two-handed sword that was usually 150 cm or longer. This length made it very difficult for opponents to approach. The claymore often had a long, leather-covered ricasso, so that the warrior could place both hands on the blade when his enemy came close. The earliest claymores were used in the 16th century, the latest in the 18th century.

Sir William Wallace was a Scottish knight and one of the main leaders in the Wars of Scottish Independence.  In September 1297 he defeated the English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge. After the battle he was appointed Guardian of Scotland and served until he was defeated at the Battle of Falkirk in 1298. He continued to fight for Scottish independence until he was captured in 1305 executed in London for crimes of High Treason.  In death his exploits passed into legend. Sir Walter Scott wrote about him in “Exploits and Death of William Wallace – the “Hero of Scotland”.

Gladiators (Latin for Swordsman) were armed combatants from the Roman Empire who entertained audiences in the amphitheatre, the most famous of which was the Colosseum in Rome. Some gladiators were Roman citizens who desired fame and glory but most were slaves or criminals. Gladiators symbolised Rome’s martial ethics in fighting and dying well and they were celebrated in both high and low art. There are 19 amphitheatres in Britain, some of the most famous and best preserved are at Chester, Caerleon and St. Albans.

Julius Caesar was one of Rome’s most successful generals. He played a pivotal role in the demise of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire that followed. His victories in the Gallic Wars extended Rome’s territory to the English Channel and the Rhine and in 54BC he invaded Britain. He was ordered to step down from his military command after the conclusion of the Gallic Wars but instead he crossed the Rubicon with the 13th Legion and entered Roman Italy under arms, where he quickly seized power and became Emperor.
