Fiore dei Liberi, Italian master of the 15th C. wrote that he used gauntlets always in his duels. Gauntlets are, without any doubt, one of the most complicated and yet beautiful pieces of armour. The ones we offer here are made in the 15th century style of the German fashion.

They are crafted from 18 gauge steel and are suitable for some re-enactment societies (please check with your safety officer).  The high quality leather glove is stitched to the tip of the fingers, so it is easily removed, replaced or repaired. Knuckle and finger articulations are decorated with brass fittings.

The use of mittens gauntlets became more frequent during the second quarter of the 15th C. and continued to be popular long afterwards.  They were mainly used by infantry who wanted to protect their hands when using pikes and halberds. Of course, knights also used mitten gauntlets, but their use seems to be very favoured by the mercenaries and foot soldiers of the 15th Century.

This product has two parts. The upper part is the guisse with the poleyn (knee) and the second part is the greave.

Guisse with Poleyn:
45 cm from the inside part of thigh until the middle of the knee.
44 cm from the upper part in the middle of guisse until the middle of the knee.
57 cm total length.
5.5 cm from the end of the knee (sharp point) until the first hole.
7.5 cm from the end of the knee (sharp point) until the second hole.

Greave:
26 cm from the button (fastening system) until the instep.
36 cm total length (for the side part).

Our Pikeman’s Back and Breastplate is constructed from 18 gauge steel making it great for theatrical use and re-enactment (subject to the ruling of the ruling of the group’s safety officer). It features adjustable straps and detachable tassets. As with munition armour of the period, one size fits most.

This is a reproduction of German armour circa 1460 and 1500 with a corrugated and asymmetrical design. It is constructed from 18 gauge steel, and whilst that’s not ideal for re-enactment, it does make it lighter and more comfortable for LARP and theatrical use.

This item is not made to measure and therefore may require a final adjustment from the client for a perfect fit. Can be adjusted to 190cm tall and 48” chest.

Our German Asymmetrical Shoulder Armour is crafted in the Gothic style of the late 15^th century and was popular with knights in Germany, France and England. The left shoulder is more reinforced than the right as this side of the body is more likely to receive a blow from a right-handed swordsman. The top of the shoulder is pierced with arming points (holes) to allow the armour to be laced to either a breastplate or chainmail.

A Brigandine was the most common form of protection among commoners and nobility. On a 15th-century battlefield, you will find all the different styles of brigandine, ranging from the most ordinary longbowman’s brigandine to the most expensive and luxurious, high-ranking nobleman’s brigandine! A versatile form of protection offering excellent mobility, a historical brigandine features clever construction. It was made of 100s of small plates under a sturdy canvas or leather covering that gave it its iconic appearance with all the rows of plates elegantly appearing on the outside. Not only did it have an extremely distinguished appearance, but it was also extremely comfortable, precisely because of the excellent mobility it allowed. All these parameters have supported an advantage of being able to be worn for long hours, which is something all re-enactors have respected and enjoyed during hours on battlefields and long events.

A brigandine was also quite efficient in offering excellent protection, forming a perfect balance between having almost no hindrance in the movement and retaining a significant amount of protection. It was usually worn by a common soldier, with a haubergeon underneath or just a pair of mail sleeves, a skirt, and a limited amount of armour (all are available separately). It was implemented by knights and men at arms, in conjunction with full plate armour for the limbs and rest of the body.
