  • Writhen Hilt Sword

This very Gothic and very German hand and a half sword is a reproduction of an iconic original from the collection of the Royal Armoury is dated to 1480 and was forged for a wealthy, but unknown individual. There are other examples of its type which have survived and the motif of using twisted branches or floral / wooded elements to style components of swords, knives and other weapons is shown in period art. This “Gothic Bough” stylization would have required a skilled bladesmith or cutler and was certainly a way to showcase one’s status if such a finely styled weapon could be afforded. These swords are not mere art pieces or fashion accessories, the surviving examples are well-crafted, well balanced and entirely deadly weapons. These swords are full of the Gothic character of the late Medieval Holy Roman Empire and its Principalities.

This reproduction from Deepeeka’s higher quality Primus line of swords has a blade forged from C60 high carbon steel (a steel similar to 1060) which was tempered to a 48-52 HRc hardness. The intricately writhen guard, pommel and grip ring are fashioned from bright brass to recreate the appearance of the original which had fittings of copper alloy which were gilt in gold. Like the original, the wooden grip is intricately and painstakingly carved in the likeness of a bundle of entwined branches. The grip is long enough to allow for a single or two handed grip for this bastard sword. Included with the sword is a scabbard of high quality craftsmanship which is made from wood and wrapped in tight, stitched leather and finished with brass Gothic decorative banding and chape.

This item is blunt and is for ornamental use only.

  • Black Knightly Sword

This beautiful medieval sword, which is decorated with symbols and coats of arms of the Knights Templar, is not an exact replica of a historical original, but rather a tribute to the Knights Templar. The double-edged carbon steel blade has a flattened, diamond cross-section and tapers evenly towards the tip. The cutting edges are not sharpened and the full tang is riveted to the pommel.

The two-handed sword features a wooden grip wrapped in black leather for a comfortable and secure hold. The crossguard and pommel are made of steel with an antique finish. The straight crossguard ends in stylised wolf heads, while the centre is adorned with a silver Templar cross on a red enamelled background. A particular highlight is the octagonal pommel. Its centre is adorned with a red enamelled coat of arms of the Knights Templar showing two knights on a horse. This motif is framed by the Latin inscription “MILITUM XPISTI SIGILLUM“, meaning “Seal of the Soldiers of Christ”.

The sword comes with a beautiful wooden scabbard covered in black leather. Two red leather straps with antique-finish brass buckles not only add decorative accents, but also allow for easy attachment to a sword belt. This medieval sword is designed as a collectors or decoration/display piece and, besides its quality as a collectible, is also perfectly suited as a prop, e.g. to complete your costume.

  • Bosworth Hand & Half Sword

This longsword is based on a fine 15th Century example kept within the collection of the National Museum of Medieval Art in Paris. The blade is forged from tempered C60 high carbon steel (a steel with properties similar to 1060 high carbon steel) and has a diamond cross section to give it a good compromise between the cut and thrust.

The robust crossguard and pommel are crafted from blued steel and the wooden grip is carefully bound in tightly-fitted red leather. A leather rainguard chape on the guard completes the hilt and the blade is solidly anchored into the hilt with a peen over the pommel.

The sword is matched with a wood-core scabbard which is wrapped in matched leather with stitched construction. Its locket and chape are made from matched blued steel.

  • Red Dragon - Temple Church Sword

Our Temple Church sword is a replica of a sword found in the River Thames in London. The sword, forged in the period between 1300-1350, was discovered opposite Temple Church, the headquarters of the Knights Templar in England.

During the 14th century, the gardens of the Temple in London ran down to the river’s edge where this sword was discovered. The discovery location, coupled with the crosses in the pommel, suggests that it is a Templar knight’s sword thrown into the river when the Order of the Temple was dissolved by Edward II in 1314.
